For over 85 years, Golden Casket has been supporting the Queensland community and Golden Casket's Rainbow Kids continues this tradition today. Here are some of the ways Rainbow Kids has recently helped to put big smiles on little faces.
This year marks the ten year anniversary of the annual $1.5 million donation to support child health and well-being projects throughout Queensland.
The key recipients are The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation and the Mater Children's Hospital who each receive $500,000 every year. The remainder is distributed to projects throughout the State by Queensland Health. The amount donated now totals over $15 million.
Some of the projects undertaken at the two hospitals recently include:
- The Golden Casket Laboratory for Paediatric
Research
- Dietetics research programs
- Child developmental work
- Research into social and preventative
medicine in endocrinology
- Research positions in clinical epidemiology
and the Child Protection Unit
- The position of the Director of Child
Advocacy Services and two Golden Casket Clinical Fellows in Child Protection

- A two-year world first study at the Kirwan
Hospital for Women in Townsville that focuses providing parents of critically
ill neo-natal children with audio tapes of their specialist consultation
- A three-year study into the role of receptors
in developing embryos
- The Children's Nutrition Research Centre
To celebrate Gold Lotto's 21st birthday in July 2002, $84,000 was given to the
Starlight Children's Foundation to grant the wishes of 21 seriously ill Queensland
children.
The Golden Casket Child Advocacy Service Clinic opened at the Royal Children's Hospital in May 2002. This clinic provides health assessment of children harmed, or at risk of harm, from child abuse.
The Golden Casket Specialist Clinics were opened within the new Mater Children's Hospital in September 2001. The clinics specialise in paediatrics, respiratory medicine and child development.

In November 2001, the inaugural Golden Casket's Rainbow Kids Day, was held in
Golden Casket shops throughout Queensland. Over $64,000 was raised for the Heart
Foundation Heart Kids to fund the establishment of the Golden Casket Resource
and Education Centre in The Prince Charles Hospital.
In October 2001, Golden Casket purchased vital equipment for the Royal Children's Hospital cancer ward.
In July 2001, $200,000 was donated to the Mater Children's Hospital Trust to help fund the completion of the Mater Children's Hospital.
All of these initiatives have been made possible by your continued support of Golden Casket. So thank you for helping us put big smiles on the faces of Queensland's kids.
